Prasad Ovhal is a Senior Data Scientist based in Pune, Maharashtra, India — often referred to as the Oxford of the East. With more than 7 years of experience in applied Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, his work focuses on designing and deploying scalable AI systems powered by Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs).
His current work centers around LLM-powered applications, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), hybrid retrieval architectures, vector search systems, LLM evaluation frameworks, hallucination benchmarking, agentic AI systems, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations, alongside building data science and machine learning solutions for predictive modeling, forecasting, and advanced analytics. The goal is to develop reliable, scalable, and production-ready AI systems capable of solving complex real-world problems across multiple domains.
Prasad currently works at Red Hat India and has previously held roles at Fractal Analytics and CRISIL, with additional applied research carried out during his M.Tech. Across these organisations and research work, his experience spans domains including credit risk, corporate finance, consumer packaged goods (CPG), cybersecurity, medical research, meteorology, and bioinformatics.
He holds a Master’s degree in Mathematical Modelling & Simulation (Data Science specialization) and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, both from Savitribai Phule Pune University.
Alongside industry work, he contributes to academia as a part-time Teaching Associate since 2019 at the Centre for Modeling & Simulation and 2024 at the Bioinformatics Department, both at Pune University. Also previously served as a Teaching Associate at Flame University. Alongside professional and academic work, he actively engages in data science and AI career counselling, helping aspiring professionals navigate learning paths, industry expectations, and real-world project building.
His research focuses on the sustainable development and deployment of data-driven models and optimization techniques across interdisciplinary domains, and he has published several research papers in collaboration with universities across India under the guidance of Prof. Jayaraman Valadi.
Outside of professional work, interests include football, fitness, yoga, trekking, reading, traveling, video games, watching anime, and exploring ideas related to science and the universe.
